The summer holiday is pretty much here now, for those of us with children, we are going to be racking our brains on how to entertain them this summer. The last thing you need to be worrying about is your car, you should be able to load the kids in the car and drive off in a moment’s notice. This can be a problem if your car has not been properly maintained. There are some things that you should be doing regularly to make sure that your car is up to code and in perfect working condition. This post is for busy parents that want to make sure that their car is in perfect working condition.
Check 1 – As a key component of your electrical system your batteries need to be maintained properly, it not it can cause breakdowns and dangerous accidents. Check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight. If you’ve had the battery for over 4 years, it might be worth replacing, if you’re not sure you can refer to your owner’s manual for the recommended longevity.
Check 2 – It is important to check your brakes often as your stopping distance depends on its functionality. If your brakes squeals or grinds or vibrates, they are trying to tell you that they are worn out and it is time to replace them. You should also remember to check your brake fluids at regular intervals and it you need to change the brake fluids more often than you normally do this might be an indication that the fluid is leaking and you should check it.
Check 3 – Most automobile breakdowns are caused by overheating, especially in the summer, so it is important to check your water levels every couple of weeks and top-up as required. Remember, if it seems like the water level is always low then it might be worth checking for leaks. While you’re at it, it might be worth checking the windscreen wiper and other fluids.
Check 4 – If your tyres are running on, under or over inflated tyres then you run the risk of busting the tyres, losing fuel, or losing control of the steering wheel. To avoid this, you should make sure that your tyre pressure is up to the recommended standard, if unsure you should check your owner’s manual. While checking the tyre pressure you should also look for cuts and bulges around the sidewall also remembering to check your spare tyre as well. If you find any you might need to consider replacing your tyres, if so check for tyres online for cheap tyres at competitive prices.
Check 5 – Finally, you should also make sure that you check the lights, including brake lights, mist lights, turning lights and more. You should make sure that all your dashboard lights are in perfect working conditions, if ignored, it might lead to serious incidents endangering your life and the lives of the people around you.
